Beauty { Ipsy Glam Bag | March 2014 }

This was the first time I was disappointed with my Ipsy glam bag…I didn’t like the design on the bag, the shade of the OPI nail polish, and the eyeshadow quad. The only thing I’m looking forward to trying is the Pixi primer, and the bareminerals lipstick. Hopefully next month is better!

I’m still keeping my subscription because I really liked what I received previous months, and it’s a great way to try new products and brands. I’ve been trying to be more adventurous with my makeup and this is a great way to do that.

What did you guys get? What do you think of the products I received? Any other subscription services that you would recommend?

Fashion { Reality Check }

I love reading fashion blogs because of the pictures where I can get outfit inspiration. But I was unsure about starting my own blog because I felt intimidated since my outfits aren’t as ‘elaborate’ all the time.

Then I realized that there are important lessons to be learned from street style, and that fashion is very personal. Even though I would like to wear heels every day, my lifestyle (and the weather in Montreal) doesn’t allow for that. Regardless of that, I can still look put-together and feel good.

I hope that I can inspire every girl (and boy!) to look their best, no matter what, and not get intimidated by trends or what others choose to wear. Fashion is about finding our own individual style identity that suit our lifestyle, budget, and personality, rather than following someone else’s idea of a good outfit!

I spent that morning getting work done at a bakery, so I wore a comfortable but put-together outfit, appropriate for the Montreal weather, which is still cold this time of year (that day, it was -10˚C /14˚F). .

How about you? What are some of your every day outfit? What would like to see in a lifestyle blog that’s different?

Mani-Monday { Pink & Silver Glitter }

Who doesn’t love a little glitter? The silver accents nails were just enough for my taste. I really liked this sandy-glittery by OPI from the Mariah Carey Collection (in the color ‘It’s Frosty Outside’). I would definitely recommend it as a silver glitter in your collection. The effect reminds me of the Louboutin Fifi Strass. But until I can get a pair, I’ll settle for the same look, but on my nail.

The pink is the Zoya ‘Dot’ polish that I received in my February Glam Bag and I really like it. It’s a great polish and a great shade.

Doing my nails is a fun and relaxing way to tune out after a long day. It’s important to find activities that you enjoy and that help you decompress. I’m learning that taking time to take care of myself is so important, because when I feel recharged, I have even more energy and love to put out into the world.

What are some things that you enjoy doing on your alone-time?

Fashion { Coral }

Another outfit I wore a few weekends ago when my sister was visiting. Since it was   a low-key weekend, I didn’t get too dressed up. I’ve been making a conscious effort to add more color to my wardrobe, and this bright coral sweater was perfect! I hesitated to get it, but my aunt loved it so much when I tried it on that she bought it for me on the spot, and I’m so happy (and grateful) that she did, because I’ve worn it many times since I got it. Just to push my boundaries even more, I paired the sweater with this neon yellow necklace that I got from SheInside.

Fashion { Pink Weekend }

The universe answered (temporarily) my call for a personal style photographer and sent my sister for a few days. We were able to get a few outfit pictures, which is really great for me because she’s one of the only people that can make me feel comfortable and make me laugh in any situation. It’s so important to have a few friends that you are so comfortable around that you can truly be yourself, even when you are vulnerable (I’m extremely shy in front of the camera…).

The weekend was low-key, catching up and spending time with the family, so I didn’t get too dressed up. I love pairing a sweater with jeans, and then making sure to accessorize.

What’s your idea of a comfortable weekend outfit? What are some of the important parts to a friendship?

Mani-Monday { Black Sand }

I’ve gathered quite the collection of nail polishes. In fact, it feels like there aren’t enough days in a week to enjoy all of them, since I keep a mani for 4-6 days, and then wait a few days to give a break to my nails. But because there are still so many colors and appliqués that I haven’t tried yet, I’ve been creating manicures around the ones that I want to try.

In the custom-made Birchbox that I received for my birthday, there was a set of three small OPI polishes from the Mariah Carey collection with a sandy effect. As you might have noticed, I’ve been on a bit of a black & white kick lately, so I paired simple white nails, with a few nails with the black sand, called ‘Emotions’. Although I loved how the effect looked (it looks like asphalt on your nail), it did take me a few tries to get it right. I wouldn’t recommend using a base color under it, but simply a base coat (I put white under it and it took AGES to dry…drove me nuts).

What do you think of this effect? Have you ever tried it? Do you like it?

{ Instagram Fashion Diary 2 }

Clearly I haven’t been consistent enough with taking ‘outfit of the day’ pictures for my Instagram. But, here are the few pictures that I found lately, a few outfits from being out and about, mostly for running errands or going out to a cozy date night.

The reality is that I live in a really cold city, and looking stylish while making sure that I’m wearing enough layers to keep me warm is quite challenging. Most days, I have to wear my Timberland winter boots with my huge (but incredibly warm) Northface jacket. So maybe that’s why I don’t have enough ootd pictures and I should aim to take them before I put the many layers of clothes on?

How about you? How do you try to stay stylish but warm (if you live in a cold city)? And if you live in a warm city, well, good for you.. I’m jealous.

Mani-Monday { Nude is Back with Black }

This manicure is officially my favorite. I had done something similar for my birthday, but this time, I also used ‘Glints of Linda’ by OPI, which is the perfect nude color for me, and I’m obsessed! I LOVE how this turned out, especially that the black tips make my nail look so much longer than they actually are!

I really love doing my nails. Not only do I enjoy taking time for myself to paint my nails, it also brings out a creative side of me. It’s like painting little pieces of art (yes, I am losing the term ‘art’ very loosely here) – I look at the different colors, tools and accents that I have and imagine in my mind what I want to create. It also just enhances how I feel in the morning when I put an outfit together, because the little touches matter.

Beauty { Ipsy Glam Bag | February 2014 }

I received my Ipsy Glam Bag!! I was very excited when I opened my mailbox and saw the flashy pink envelope in there. The theme for this month was “The Look of Love”, just in time for Valentine’s day! This is the second Ipsy bag that I received and I’m still really happy with what I got. If you have any questions about the products, let me know! The details of the products are captioned under each picture if you scroll through them.

Are you subscribed to any beauty services like Ipsy? Or if you are subscribed to Ipsy, what did you receive this month in your glam bag?

Mani-Monday { Reflective }

I haven’t been able to stop staring at my nails. No, but seriously, the changing colors of this polish are so fun to see under different lights, I just can’t stop staring. A really fun and surprisingly quite subtle polish, that I wouldn’t recommend if you get easily distracted like I do (yes, I just paused and stared at my nails for a few seconds).

Life also has changing ‘colors’ – there’s always a different angle from which you can look at a situation. A more positive perspective can lead to finding a solution, or just being at peace with whatever is meant to happen! A good reminder for myself right now.
